Throwback Thursday

P1030815
I miss my long hair.

People say, time flies when you hit 20.

How true. Once 20 arrive, 21, 22 and 23 follows suit. Gone are those carefree days where all we have to worry about is where/what to eat/do. Now, conversations include getting a house, getting married and so on and so forth.

Really wish I could stay at 20 though. That was when.. I had a gap year between junior college and university (thanks to SIM), Bukit Gombak was my 2nd home, mioTV was our buddy, dabbled in different industries, quit a job after 3 days, traveled to Genting with 3 different cliques in a year, hardcore 987/RSVP fan and many other things.

I guess the 20-year-old me would not have looked at 2013 and see that the 23-year-old me will be graduating from UB with a Cum Laude (with distinctions), had a summer exchange in Seoul, met someone special there, and the last thing that would be so unexpected would be interning at 987fm and working side by side with Vernon & Justin.

Glad to say, I still have this awesome bunch of friends with me. Let's see what 2013 have in store for me ;)

Life as we know it

I want an otter. like seriously. why is this otter so cute. why. oh why.

Ohhhh it's been a while since I last have a proper update.

So here's what happened.

Summer was a bitch. Man I missed Summer'12 like mad. I'm so glad it''s over though. Thankfully the craziness was worth it. But it was made better by the wonderful lecturers and new friends that I've made. Lecturers like Stephanie Pollack, Carolyn Hurley, Michael Stefanone and Amanda Lohiser make me feel that I should have joined UB later. BAC/6 and earlier have gotten crappy lecturers like HJH and K.Ong and those modules felt like a waste of time now. Newer batches are getting their money worth with all the US lecturers.

Oh well. Summer II is finally over. Did my first media kit and it was a huge smoke mission. Went into a gay club for the very first time for intercultural comms and had a blast. My first clubbing experience with people that I do not know very well. However, I have to say that it was fun and I really felt at ease with them. A wonderful presentation with the group with oh-so-awesome keynote slides done by Valerie.

1 last semester left. 2 more mods. 3 good friends to spend it with. 4 more months to graduation. Too fast. It feels like yesterday when I step into SIM for UB orientation camp. No doubt the best 3 years of my life. I finally got to study what I like.

Outside of school, there's many amazing stuff going on as well. I applied for "the most powerful intern" for the Muttons..

Made it to the top 3 and emerged the winner :D

Honestly, I dont know why I was chosen but I'm glad to be given the chance to learn, and fulfill my childhood dream of working in a radio studio.

Participated in the first ever Great Mp3 Experiment in Singapore! Wheeeee! Finally a chance to participate in an improveverywhere event after following their website for years.

Tourist for the day because we went to the zoo before this :D

Received the photos from our photoshoot! A pleasant surprise after school and I love love love the photos so much <3

Caught Phantom Of The Opera! FINALLY! I missed the last time when they came to Singapore in 2007 and the moment I heard the news that they are coming back, I eagerly waited for the ticket sales and got it the moment it's available. It was so so so so goooodddd. It was A's first musical so POTO was even more special now. (:

Made sushi for a picnic with the boy at Gardens by the Bay. Noms. It's fun but it was time-consuming to prepare the ingredients.

& then queued for Tim Ho Wan for dinner. Took us about 1hr 15 min? I think it's my longest queue up to date. The char siew buns were noms. Love the first bite, where it's the milky crust and then the fillings in the second bite. Maybe it's because I took small bites hence 2 bites to get to the fillings.

Met up with Inez, the super duper busy girl, finally! I was pretty sad that we kinda lost contact after Summer'12 and I didn't make the effort to contact her either. A few times I did but we just stopped talking. Glad that I saw her during convocation and finally pestered her relentlessly for a meetup. It was just a 2-hour brunch date but it felt like we made up for the 1 year that we've lost. One of the best confidant, friend, groupmate, batchmate from UB <3

and so I started my internship with the Muttons just last week and there's so much to learn! Radio doesnt look as easy as it sounds. It was quite thrilling to be on air occasionally and I still dont know how I sound like on air! Everyday was a different experience and I have my own mini segment "Funny Headlines Around the World" hehehee. Looking forward to more new things and maybe meet celebs or something. HAHAHA. Now I cannot win anything from them already):

Color Run 2013! Thankfully I did not spend $55 on this run because as much fun as I had, I still don't think it's worth the money. Seeing how strangers high-fiving each other and laughing at each other like we've known each other for years, colored cornstarch, legit reason to go home in a colorful mess makes Color Run live up to its reputation of being the #happiest5k. I'll go for the next one, if it's free or not so expensive. Hehee.

08s10 Class gathering! It's more of a small group gathering since the attendance was 8/24. Nevertheless, it was still good catching up with the rest and Kenneth is finally back from US! Hopefully we'll have a better attendance for the next gathering.

1 more week to the start of Fall. Life is getting busy, but enriching and fun. Time with A is getting lesser, with me ending work at 8pm. I'm thankful that we have Saturday for we-time and instead of meeting for dinners, we're changing to meet for lunch so at least there's some time spent together. Didnt meet the boy during the weekdays for this week and it felt so so long. Bahhhh. Dont like this. Glad that we have the occasional night calls which makes not seeing each other better. I'm really thankful that both of us make the effort to spend time with each other and it's not just a one-way street, thankful for him being an adult in the relationship when I'm behaving like a child, whining and complaining. Thankful for him being supportive and gave me encouragement in this new journey that I'm taking, for tuning into my mini segment and giving me feedbacks.

I'm looking forward to all my Saturdates already (:

Bangkok Day 1!

Finally gonna blog about BKK trip after a month plus..?  BKK was our very first official holiday together! (Korea doesnt count. Batam was a getaway. LOL) & it was our first time to BKK. I'M A TRUE BLUE SINGAPOREAN NOW! Someone said I wasnt a Singaporean until I've been to JB, KL and BKK.

Thoughts of BKK:

1. The whole BKK is out to scam you.
2. Food's super yummy and cheap!
3. Shopping is love.
4. Indeed the land of smiles.
5. Massage at 200baht?! Massage everyday only!

May15 was the date I was looking forward to. 1 day after A's exams (liberation like finally!) We took AirAsia and flight was at 2.40pm. Had a lot of time in the transit area. Still love the feeling of going in for leisure and not work.

the usual cloud shot :D

Reached Don Mueang Airport and everything was rather fast and hassle-free. Went to the taxi stand outside and the first thing that greeted me was the heat. Took the cab to Baiyoke Sky Hotel and it was fast! Not much jam. Speaking of which, I've read so many posts on needing to pay tolls and stuff, and there were different lanes (some were toll lanes) but the taxi driver did not take the toll lanes and hence, no toll payment needed. It cost us 210 baht from DMK airport to Baiyoke Sky Hotel (160 baht and the mandatory 50baht surcharge).

Walked to the nearest 7-11 to get our prepaid card and then relied on google maps to get us to our hotel! After researching on many hotels, we decided on Tango Vibrant Living Place. It's small, comfy, cosy and cheap! Took us a while to get 3G and figured our way to Tango. Turns out that it was in one of the smaller alleys opposite Indra Regent Hotel. Check-in was smooth. Was surprised at the interior of the room.

I think that Tango's a rather comfy place to stay for 2. After all, we only need the room to sleep :D

By the time we settled down in our room, it was already 6+pm. Then it's time for my surprise dinner! For this part, the boy did the planning since it was suppose to be my belated birthday dinner.

Took the cab to Spring Summer. The taxi driver quoted us 200baht and we took it cos we didnt really know where the place was located at. A knew about this place through some Chinese shows on BKK.

It looks like a very posh restaurant but surprisingly enough, there was no dress code. A went in shirt, berms & slippers.

Food was a fusion of western and thai, and apparently, the restaurant was owned by some Thai actor.

Really really refreshing watermelon drink to combat the heat.

Cant remembered what was the name of the dishes we ordered):

I think the highlight of the place is this..

Sorry for the dark photo. I tried my best. They have a lawn! In fact, the lawn was the first thing that greeted us when we walked in. & that was a huge reason why A decided on this place (instead of all the popular sky bars. Definitely visiting those skybars on my next trip to bkk!)

Went to the lawn for some drinks after dinner.

It was rather nice just lying on those beanbags, chilling and chatting under the starry sky. It would have been better if it wasnt that warm. Haha. The lawn was filled with people despite the heat and it's really an interesting feature in that entire place. If only it's not right next to the road.

The bill came up to about $100 odd for 1 starter, 2 main course, 2 non-alcoholic drinks and 2 alcoholic drinks which I think is pretty okay given that it would have been much more expensive in Singapore.

It was a quiet road so we werent sure if it was easy getting a cab. Besides, Cyril mentioned that another way to not get cheated for taxi rides is to just enter the cab like a local and give your location. We were a bit sceptical initially. What if we enter, give a location, and the taxi drove us off, quoting an exorbitant price? In the end, we decided to try that method after waiting for a cab for quite some time. Ok, I got scared cos the cab driver turned over to look at us very scarily, like those in the horror movie where he turned back really slowly and creepily. Nonetheless, it worked! The driver turned on the meter and drove off and the fare was 75baht back to Indra Regent. 75 BAHT. COMPARED TO THE 200 BAHT WE PAID EARLIER. SEE THE DIFFERENCE?!

(However, we never tried that method after this one time again) Lol.

Returned to the hotel and ZZZZZZZ.

Mid-summer hectic

Summer is still a mad rush right now. Rushing both my topic presentation and Happiness Unlimited!
Although its been time-consuming and everything is really packed, I have to say that Stephanie Pollack's class is really fun and interactive and I would love to take her lessons again in Fall. End my university education with a bang ;)

Happiness Unlimited went down to town to spread happiness by giving balloons and appreciation cards to the public. As I gave those balloons to the kids, it warms my heart seeing how the balloons lit up their faces.

Joyworkers @ work!

Both the boy and I are so busy that our only free days are the weekends. Saturday is officially our date day and I'm so thankful and appreciative that the boy came down to help us out.

Don't know how my life would be if it wasn't for him(:
Another event in school tomorrow! This seems fun(:

23.

And so.. I turned 23 :o

I cant believe it myself either. That I'm not 18, not 21 anymore. Freaking 23. Woah. Time past too quickly. What have I achieved in this 23 years? Nothing much really. Well, not liking 23, but I'm definitely looking forward to the future. 2013 is a year of changes, fun and new things.

May is like exam period for everybody so.. note to self, don't torture my future kids by giving them a May birthday. Lol. Everybody was busy with exams, including hellokitty, which was pretty sad. So 23rd was a quiet day, literally, since I spent it in the library with the boy while he studied.

There wasnt anything much. Had a lunch and that's it but I guess what mattered was being able to see him on my day. Looking forward to my belated dinner celebration in Bangkok! (2 MORE DAYS WOOHOO!)

A birthday celebration with the family at night! A tradition that we always have. No matter what, there must be a cake :D

Till the next post! (when I'm back from bkk hehehee)
