Review: Buffet City International Buffet Restaurant | Tanjong Pagar

Merry Christmas y'all! I hope it has been a wonderful Christmas spent with your loved ones and lots of food!

My mum wanted to go out for a meal for all 6 of us. For the past years, we would go to the airport to have a meal and then enjoy the decorations. (Yes we are the typical Singaporean family who goes to the airport for fun)

After some recommendations from her friends, we found Buffet City International Buffet Restaurant. At first I was like eh? I've only heard of Buffet Town. After googling, I found out that it was a halal buffet place. I couldn't find any blog reviews on this place so I relied solely on HungryGoWhere.

A lot of restaurants usually jack up their prices during the festive season and it doesn't make sense for us to head to a place to eat at $80/pax when it is only $30+/pax on a normal day. Buffet City's price was like $27.80 for a dinner on a normal weekday and $29.80 for festive period so.. why not give it a try? There's also a 10% discount when you pay online.

Called them to make a reservation and surprisingly, there is no problem considering how I only called like 3 days before Christmas.

It's located at Tanjong Pagar Community Centre. We parked at Pinnacle @ Duxton. We reached at 5.30pm and it was quite empty. But people started trickling in at about 6.30pm. I was quite surprise about the huge crowd though..

Sushi was bad. Very very dry and tiny. No sashimi! I was so disappointed there wasn't any salmon. I know I shouldn't have too high an expectation but given that I had Rise buffet a few days ago, I can't help comparing.

We stuffed ourselves with the chilled prawns, black pepper crabs and chili crabs. The chilled prawns were big. I usually am very lazy and won't peel prawns but I ate the most number of prawns today. The curly fries were nice! Reminded us of A&W fries. Other than that.. nothing much to shout about. The ice cream were very soft. The soup for laksa was not hot at all. Felt rather unsafe because there's coconut milk in it. Just a personal opinion. It's rather cramped when there's a crowd because all the chairs were touching each other and it gets very troublesome when someone wants to move in/out.

There were free-flow drinks as well. Forgot to take a shot of the drinks station but there were mainly cans of soft drinks for you to take, as well as hot drinks like teh-tarik. The staff refilled the food rather fast. Service-wise, there were not a lot of waiters around for a public holiday. Plates hardly get cleared and with a small space, we had to clear our own plates sometimes. However, they were really helpful and polite.

When asked for an opinion, A said "This is a place I will come back only IF I want to have buffet during a festive season with a $30 budget and all other places are fully booked"

Good: Cheap for a festive season, prawns, black pepper crabs, crayfish, chili crabs, fries. Polite staff
Bad: Very limited food options, small space, food was so-so

Verdict: Not for fussy eaters. Come only when you're on a tight budget during festive season.
