Singapore ✈ Bangkok ✈ Colombo, Sri Lanka (Day 5)

We reached Colombo, Sri Lanka at about 1.30am on Christmas day! Sri Lanka is about 2.5 hours behind Singapore. What stood out was the number of electronic stores in their DFS area. Televisions, washing machines, irons, whatever you can think of, it's there. Bought our data plan with the free tourist SIM card that they gave in the transit area. We used Dialog and bought their 30-day 1gb data plan. It cost us 299Rs, which was about SGD$3! Real cheap.

A driver came to pick us up and to our accommodation, which Upekha's dad had kindly arranged for us. It was about 30-40km away from the airport. Quickly washed up and then off to sleep!

Took some photos of our apartment the next morning!

And finally met this woman after so long.

Off we went to Blue Water Resort at Wadduwa!

Their traffic is really different from ours. Most of their roads are 1 lane each, so overtaking is quite dangerous, at least to us who are not familiar with the roads. What the drivers would do is to honk the horn twice which means that they are going to overtake, and the vehicle will naturally slow down for them to do so. However, they need to check for oncoming vehicles because there's only 1 lane each. I think the most exciting overtaking experience was when there's a bus coming right at us and we managed to overtake a car successfully. It was real scary.

The beach which the resort was on!

Getting ready for the wedding!

My handsome man <3

The beautiful bride!

The guests from Singapore!

The Ponruwa ceremony where the newly-weds thank their parents, and acknowledge each other as husband and wife etc.

It's a different wedding style from the usual Chinese wedding we experienced and it was really fun!

I love how the rose is floating inside!

The newly-weds first dance!

I love how they love dancing in their weddings and uncle was so onz when the music changed to a fast-paced one!

We all went down to the dance floor and people were really spontaneous and fun!

A shot with the newly-weds!

With Upekha's parents who treated us so well in Sri Lanka!

We were really tired and went back to our place after the wedding. It was great fun experiencing a wedding from a different culture. Perhaps it was due to Sri Lanka being a British colony in the past, they have really really nice tea culture (next post!) and a strong similarity to the English weddings.

This was truly a one-in-a-million Christmas!

Coming up: our road trip all across Sri Lanka!

Restaurant Week 2014: Clifford/The Landing Point | Fullerton Bay Hotel

Restaurant week 2014 is back! Went to Alkaff Mansion for Restaurant Week 2013 and it's yet another restaurant this year!

We made our reservation the moment it was opened. It was about 12 midnight and most of the places I wanted were already gone! Yeah it's that fast, and it's priority booking, which happened 2 days before it was opened to the public. Managed to book Clifford and Stellar @ 1-Altitude. There was a glitch in the system - it told me that my booking wasn't through when in fact, it was. So I had booked those 2 restaurants, on the same day, same time -______- Decided on Clifford late last week.

Clifford called me sometime last week to inform me that they were having a private event during the day of my booking and had to move us down to The Landing Point. The menu would be the same though.

Brought my Olympus Pen out but guess what, there was a card error -.- In the end, I lugged my camera out for nothing and had to rely on my iPhone 5s. I was really upset so there wasn't much photos taken of the surroundings.

We were seated by the window on the high chairs. I had initially requested for outdoor seating but that was planned a week back where we had the dry spell. It rained the entire day today so I moved us back indoors just to be on the safe side.

First course:

His Beetroot Cured Salmon with Wasabi and Salmon Roe. Salmon was really really fresh and the salmon roe, wow. As you take your first bite into the salmon roe, it squishes around like a mini water balloon and then it explodes into a flavorful experience in your mouth.

My Traditional Rich Onion Soup with Melted Guyure Cheese Crouton. Hmmm, nothing special.

His Grouper Baked on Olive Plank, Fine Beans and Glazed Carrot on Caviar Sauce. The taste was rather interesting. The grouper was firm. Not too hard, not too soft. The tenderness was ideal.

Clifford Signature Duck Confit served with Pear, Baby Spinach and Hazelnut Dressing. I prefer my duck confit over his baked grouper. The skin is crispy but not oily. Not a fan of oil or fats so this dish is perfect for me.

Slice of Chocolate cake with Passionfruit Sorbet. I felt that the chocolate cake was rather normal. Tasted like something you can get from Four Leaves. However the passionfruit sorbet was amazing. I usually don't like passionfruit but I gulped down this scoop instantly.

Would I go back to Clifford/The Landing Point? Hmmm, not really. If not for Restaurant Week, I don't think I will be back anytime soon.

The view was great, just by the riverside across from MBS. To end off our wonderful dinner date, here's a photo <3

Singapore ✈ Bangkok (Day 4) ✈ Colombo, Sri Lanka!

Day 4 (24th December)

It was our last day in Bangkok! 好的时光总是过得那么快。

Breakfast at Boxpackers Hostel! Everyday there would be 4 sets of western breakfast for you to choose from. At the same time, there's unlimited cereal, drinks and salad!

I love love love this pancake! Only had it on our last day): Found this gem a tad too late.

Went for some last minute shopping before checking out of our hostel. Our wonderful stay has come to an end. But not before we left our marks!

Wanted to visit Roast at Thong Lo but guess what, of all days, the BTS decided to break down! Can you believe our luck? It was their first technical breakdown in 14 years.

We had already bought our BTS tickets and so the BTS officers recommended us to head to Terminal 21. Instead of a straight line down to Asoke, we had to transfer to MRT just to go over. It was pretty troublesome but we didn't have anything to do already so might as well.

Everybody knows about how Terminal 21 is a themed shopping mall so best thing to do over there is to take photos! I love how the toilets are all different. Remember! Even though they are on the same level, the toilets decorations are different! Go to the bigger one which is next to the escalator which will bring you to the entrance. That's the prettier one :D I've only realised it during my 2nd trip to BKK just last week (which I will try to blog after this 13 day adventure)

The USA level.

The famous London underground map!

The boy being his usual cheeky self.

They removed the sakura tree already. It wasn't there last week. I don't know why :(

Had MK for lunch and it's really cheap steamboat :D There's steamboat and ala carte menu for cooked food. Do try MK when you're there cos it's super cheap and yummy and you won't get this price back here in Singapore. Even though we have MK here, I'm pretty sure the price will be quite different.

A does not have a sweet tooth. I do. Yet he's the one asking to go back to After You Cafe for another round of Shibuya Honey Toast.

Went for another round of massage and then we made our way to the airport. As usual, we got lost while walking from Boxpackers Hostel to Phaya Thai Airport Rail. The thing was, Google Map can be in accurate because they have roads which they closed for roadworks etc and then we had to figure our way out of the wrong road to a correct one. There were so many alleys and dead ends. Blah.

Our train ride was 40 minutes. There wasn't any express train to take so we took the city train.

We got bumped up to business class! It was a pleasant Christmas present from Cathay :D

Next post: Colombo, Sri Lanka!

#HealthyEating

Made myself some healthy lunch after getting inspired by my ex-colleague's Instagram. It was an impulsive decision late last night so I made do with whatever I could find at home!

What's in there:
Romaine lettuce
Cherry tomatoes
Hardboiled egg
Penne
Tuna Mayonnaise (light)

I know mayonnaise isn't healthy but that's the best I could make do with at 12 midnight. I'm gonna try my best to eat as healthy as I can!

(Not tonight cos I've a Restaurant Week booking! Hehehe)
