Gaston Luga Backpack!

It's May, my favourite month!

I'm trying to post regularly here, as my main focus has been Dayre since it's meant for on-the-go updates and the Blogger app on App Store disappeared. =(

Anyway, favourite month because it's my birthday month!

Very excited for my Bali trip which is happening in less than 48 hours!

Managed to pack and my luggage is full. This is the first time my cabin luggage is filled even before I depart.

Gonna be bringing my Gaston Luga PrΓ₯per backpack with me!

Thank you Gaston Lugo for sending this over, all the way from Stockholm! It's like a super early birthday present :D It was very timely as my old backpack's zip was spoilt and I was looking for a new bag. Gaston Luga's backpack fits all my criteria - classy, fashionable, versatile and perfect for different occasions.

Shipping was amazingly fast. I was communicating with the folks at Gaston Luga on Wednesday and everything got settled by Wednesday night. The backpack was shipped and delivered to me on Friday evening.

I like the metallic feet at the bottom. For a travel backpack, it is pretty essential since you're bound to put your backpack on the floor or somewhere and I like that they provide extra protection!

The husband was pretty jealous when he unboxed the backpack with me but I guess the good thing about this backpack colour is unisex! He won't look weird carrying it. Also my personal preference because it's easy to match most of my clothings.

There's a compartment at the back to hold small items like passport, or flight/train tickets. It's very convenient and even though there are no zips, it's very secure, so you don't have to worry about your things falling out! I use it to store my ez-link card pouch here in SG.

The shoulder straps are adjustable, and there's no need to worry that the length may change due to running about.

There are 3 inner compartments - 2 small pockets and a 13-15" laptop compartment.

I won't be surprised to see many people owning the same colour and design of GL backpack as me because it's great for both genders and what's there not to love about this design?

If you're someone who loves a unique design, you can customise a leather address tag to go along with your backpack. There are 10 different colours available.

I'm all ready for my Bali trip!

Choosing my engagement ring!

I don’t think I’ve written about my rings before! Here’s a post dedicated to my engagement ring + wedding bands before I forgot about our journey to choosing the one! #tohtallylokey

It all started when I read about #JannPaul on HWZ. So much so that I was the one who proposed setting an appointment with them instead of A doing it πŸ˜’ I wanted to choose my own ring because I’m going to be wearing it and I rather wear something that I like, rather than have the element of surprise and not like the ring A chose.

Prior to our trip, we had a discussion on A’s budget and what I wanted. From the start, I knew I wanted a ring with side diamonds. The smallest diamond size I’d like would be a 0.38. I thought it was dainty and not too tiny.

Our first visit to JannPaul

We were served by Joy. Every first visit at JP starts with an educational session on diamonds. She taught us on the 4Cs of diamond, showing us the different variety they have and how to identify a good diamond. For noobs like us, it was really useful. We, or rather I, had a fun time looking at all the various settings they have!

Best part is that customisation is available and it’s up to our imagination as to how we want to craft the ring. I was blown away by the service was JP. There was absolutely no hard-sell at any point of time!

Keeping our options open and having advice given to us, we went to other places like The Canary @ Delphi.

I cannot remember the person who served us but it wasn’t a nice experience.

Oh, given his budget, we could have gotten a bigger diamond at Canary than JP.

(0.62carat)

After our session at JP, we had a little more knowledge on diamonds but there wasn’t much explanation given to us. After knowing that I wanted something with side diamonds and our budget, she took out these TWO ring settings (as above) and a couple of diamond sizes. Briefly stated the 4Cs and asked if we want to confirm. What? Just like that? She didn’t seem keen on answering our questions nor did she seem very inclined to help us. We left and never went back.

A’s SIL and BIL brought us to Cartier and Tiff & Co. They wanted to show us that it IS possible to get a branded ring with A’s budget. I’m not someone who is very particular on the brand.

(Ring from tiff&co)

Well, it was indeed possible to get something with his budget. A 0.24 carat diamond. Nothing caught my eye despite it being branded. I thought my ‘minimum requirement’ of a 0.38 diamond was already very low, but 0.24 is.. tiny. I know different people have different preferences but it’s just not for me.

Besides, I didn’t like any of the ring settings too. Both were definitely out! However, from this trip, I learnt that A would have gotten a Tiff&Co ring for me if I didn’t insist on choosing my own ring! THANK GOD I SAID I WANTED A SAY IN IT.

We went back to JP quite a lot of times. I was hesitating between an Octagon diamond vs a Super Ideal. I really wanted the Octagon but given A’s budget, I can only get a low 0.4x carat, which won’t be obvious. Like, if i get a SI with 6 prongs, it’d also look like an Octagon so what’s the point?

Can you spot it?

Octagon at the top, SI below.

Octagon + side diamonds.

No side diamonds?

Halo!

Now why did I not go for this flashy one?

A said to go for the SI, then I can get a bigger one. All in all, we made a total of 4 visits to JP and finally got it locked down! Being fickle-minded, there were a couple of times I texted Joy and even asked her to keep a diamond for me before my next visit.

Joy said that in all my visits, this is the one setting that I’ve picked out without fail. She purposely did not want to bring my attention to this setting when I was looking at it but I always go back to this one.

Speaking of which, do look for Joy if you're there! She's really a joy to work with 😊

We did not make any customisation, except to change the heart-shaped prongs to a normal claw prong.

Tips for choosing your engagement ring

These are just what I've learnt and is a non-exhaustive list of tips. It's my first time choosing an engagement ring and diamond (hopefully not the last, LOL. *hint hint* HUBBY!)

Hopefully it will be useful to some of you 😊

1. Budget

You're getting married soon and finance is something that both parties have to talk about sooner or later.

Set a budget for the ring. 5k? 10k? As long as you can afford it, why not?

You want it, but he thinks it's too expensive/excessive. He wants it flashy for you, but you think the money could be better used in renovations.

Make sure both are comfortable with the budget otherwise the engagement ring will be used as ammunition in future disagreements.

2. 4C - Order of importance

So what's more important for you? Carat? Colour? Clarity? Cut?

For me, it's cut + colour > carat > clarity

I avoid H colour because that's where the yellow tinge can be seen with your naked eyes.

Clarity wise, no SI levels for me. I keep my range from VVS1 to VS2.

Cut is important because that affects the sparkle of your diamond. It's also the shape!

Bigger carat or a better clarity. I chose carat because this is much more noticeable. The inclusions can only be seen under the microscope.

3. Time

Time is needed to create your ring, more so for customized rings.

For JP, it's about a month (from your deposit) for your ring to be ready. I can't say anything for customized rings cos I understand the mould and everything requires more time.

Also set aside some time to test your ring and see if re-sizing is needed. My finger slimmed down (?!) and re-sizing took 3-4 weeks. I waited for 23 days before my baby came back.

4. Material - White gold or Platinum?

Platinum is naturally white whereas white gold is coated with rhodium plating which gives it a white look.

Over time, white gold will fade to a yellowish tinge but re-polishing and re-plating the ring makes it look as good as new again.

Durability-wise, platinum is stronger and more durable.

Platinum is also heavier than white gold. This means it's also more expensive!

We went for white gold in the end because taking platinum means almost 1k more!

I don't believe in getting a ring that MUST DIE DIE cost 3x of the monthly salary. If both parties are comfortable with whatever amount, then you're good to go!

Eventually we were a little over his initial budget, because we took a bigger diamond. A wanted to get a bigger one for me and I felt a little guilty choosing this, but I guess after everything, I have no regrets! I hope he doesn't too. LOL.

This is like the most expensive item I've ever owned and will own in the near future.

I'm still religiously cleaning/washing my ring on a weekly basis though! I think A is really proud of how I'm taking care of my babies aka rings. Lol!

We had a disagreement over this engagement ring though. I think it is our only HUGE argument to date.

A kept asking why there is a need for an engagement ring and he seemed very reluctant to get it. I know it's a marketing strategy by the De Beers brothers but hey, it's once in a lifetime okay. Well, so glad that's over now.

Oops didn't realize this is such a long post. Will keep our wedding bands for the next one then!

JB 2D1N (II)

Good morning!

Day 2 and our very short getaway is coming to an end soon ☹️
Had our buffet breakfast. Food was okay.

Breakfast time was 6.30am-10.30am and A thought it was 6.30-8.30am. Haha. Where got hotel breakfast so short de!
Went up to the pool. I brought my swimsuit but was a bit lazy because it would mean carrying a very heavy and wet swimsuit back home.
A didn't bring his trunks ☹️

But it's very nice though! Rather long and there wasn't a lot of people in the pool when we visited.

I think we are just gonna laze until check-out time and then go have my BKT!! πŸ˜‹
My view until 12pm. Refusing to leave until the check-out time.
And it started to rain just when we are going to check out 😭😭
At Historia Hair Salon now!

After some research and talking to the salons on facebook, I settled with Historia because their response was fast, and explanation was detailed. They even sent a voice message over explaining what I can or cannot do.

I wanted to try Zest because Xue En raved about them too but I couldn't find them online anywhere, and I didn't wanna do a walk-in. Walked past them earlier and they were full!
Here goes :D
2hours 20 min.

I hope my colour will turn out fine. Starting to get a little worried about what my boss will say tomorrow..

My dearest husband has been sitting next to me doing nothing, escaping for a lunch. 😘😘

After 4 hours..

So it turned out brighter than I expected.

Initially she said she don't want to bleach all because she didn't want it to touch my scalp. I said okay because I thought it was gonna be a dark base.

So now it looks like I have this colour for a while now and my roots are growing out.
I think I can be hit girl now.
Paid 328rm (sgd 109) in total.

I hope my boss won't kill me tmr πŸ™Š
Finally got my BKT!

❤️
Went to the pasar malam next to KSL. It's here every Monday.
A got some kueh and then we grabbed to JB Sentra (15rm)

We're waiting for our train now..
Going home soon!

The train left in the dot. Why is it so much more faster and efficient on MY side than SG's side? Lol.

Oh and the train doors are not closed?!?!?!
This is my hair colour under my room light. My mum didn't even realize it when she walked in to talk to me.
I hope this is what it will look like tomorrow in the office too πŸ™Š
Anyway, she realized after a while and she thought it was 100rm πŸ˜‚

JB 2D1N

<Reposting this from my Dayre>

Took bus 161 from SK to woodlands and then 903 from the interchange.

We're now at the train checkpoint and it's our first time taking the train there! We've bought our tickets via EasyBook and we gotta exchange our booking with a valid train ticket or get our printed ticket stamped.

Remember to change ok! You won't be able to get through with just your printed ticket.

A reminder at the start of the queue for departing passengers.

We are going!

Met a uni classmate here πŸ˜‚ what a coincidence hahaha

On the train!

Be early cos there's both SG and MY immigration to clear!

The train is scheduled to leave at 10am. Let's see how long it will take.

Left Singapore at 10.21am, and reached Malaysia at 10.26am. It's really just a 5-minute ride.

Brunch was at Restoran Ya Wang!

Been into JB for a couple of times and we've been having cafe food for our brunch. Decided to try something new this time.

A says it's like a regular HK cha chan teng. I don't know, cos I've never been to hongkong.

Menu!

They have various sets as well. Good for bigger groups.
Hearty brunch to start our day!

Roasted duck, char siew and roasted park - 29rm
Soup - 8rm
Rice - 3rm

40rm in total, which is about $13!

Walked over to Chaiwalla & Co for some Thai milk tea.

A's favourite!
Squinting because it was damn bright! The ☀️ was relentless.

Love the greens here. 🌱🌿

Can totally see my colleague, G, do her painting here, but she'll complain about the heat.

Happyboi89, happygal90.

Caught FF8 at City Square Mall at 36rm for 2 pax!

Grabbed to Holiday Villa at 7rm.

Our room for the night! We are back at Holiday Villa!
It's a superior deluxe room. About $80/night.

I love that their rooms has a daybed.
Our view! Gonna rain soon.

This is our 2nd time back here and we were spoilt by our first time when we got upgraded to a suite.

Catch a glimpse of the suite here.

From the lift lobby! Love that it's so close to KSL and Holiday Plaza.
was feeling a bit hungry so we went to look for food!

Heard about D'laksa coming to SG (oh they are already opened at Hougang Mall since March!) and I saw someone else's post so here we are!

It's located on the ground floor, next to Watsons.
It's spicyyyy so A finished most of it.
Saw a Thai snack stall on the first floor and we decided to give it a try.

The photo looks meh right? We didn't have high hopes for this, and was prepared to declare 7rm wasted. The coconut milk looked very diluted but this turned out decent! Mango was very sweet.

Caught another movie! Shockwave. Hello handsome Andy Lau 😍 It was 28rm for 2 pax. Slightly cheaper than CSM.
Soon Soon BKT was sold out by the time we headed there after our movie 😭😭😭😭

TMR'S DINNER IT SHALL BE THEN.

Anyway, lok lok nearby! But A wanted something fuller so hopefully it will still be here by the time our massage ends later :D
Headed for this teppanyaki place at KSL, first level, next to KFC.

Nothing to shout about.

This comes with rice and soup.

I got beef and A got lamb. The total bill came up to 39rm.

Going for our Thai Odyssey massage soon! Holiday Villa guests get 10% off.
Time for our massage!

I love Thai odyssey because of all the different places we tried, they are the most consistent and shiok.

So so so awesome ahhhh.

We had aromatherapy massage for an hour. The original price was 130rm/pax but we had discount so it became 234rm in total.
